High gravity beer refers to specialty beers, either craft beers or malt liquors, with an increased specific gravity and an alcohol content in excess of 10.2% by volume. High gravity beer tends to have a higher alcohol content compared to other beers due to the concentration of sugar and flavor-enhancing ingredients used at the beginning of the brewing process. Traditionally an expression of beer making in Europe, only a small percentage of American breweries produce them.
